IRON AND STEEL
CEN/TC 459 ‘ECISS – European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization’ hosts 12 subcommittees that oversee standardization for a wide range of iron and steel products – such as wires, rods, tubes, sheets, castings, and forgings – used for different applications, ranging from electrical and machinery to construction.
CEN/TC 459/SC 1 'Test methods for steel (other than chemical analysis)' develops general methods for mechanical testing, physico-chemical and non-destructive testing, including – if necessary – the verification and calibration of testing equipment that is used to determine the properties of steel. CEN/TC 459/SC 2 'Methods of chemical analysis for iron and steel' standardizes methods and equipment to determine the chemical composition of iron and steel and related materials. The two SCs will continue working on the development/adoption of several EN ISO standards, under the Vienna Agreement.
CEN/TC 459/SC 3 'Structural steels other than reinforcements', CEN/TC 459/SC 5 ‘Steels for heat treatment, alloy steels, free-cutting steels and stainless steels’, CEN/TC 459/SC 10 'Steel tubes, and iron and steel fittings', and CEN/TC 459/SC 11 'Steel castings and forgings' plan to work on the harmonized standards mandated by the Standardization Request for structural metallic products in support of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), addressing a variety of products, such as sections, sheets, plates, and piles.
CEN/TC 459/SC 4 'Concrete reinforcing and prestressing steels' will participate in the consultation process around the draft Standardization Request on ‘Reinforcing and prestressing steel for concrete’ under the CPR.
CEN/TC 459/SC 7 ‘Steels for pressure purposes’ will start working on the deliverables mandated by Standardization Request M/601 in support of the Pressure Equipment Directive.
CEN/TC 459/SC 8 ‘Steel sheet and strip for electrical applications’ will continue working on EN 10342 ‘Magnetic materials – Classification of surface insulations of electrical steel sheet, strip and laminations’.
CEN/TC 459/SC 9 'Coated and uncoated flat products to be used for cold forming' will continue working on steel for packaging through the revision of EN 10334 and EN 10335 on ‘Steel for packaging – Flat steel products intended for use in contact with foodstuffs, products or beverages for human and animal consumption’.
CEN/TC 459/SC 10 'Steel tubes, and iron and steel fittings', CEN/TC 459/SC 11 'Steel castings and forgings', and CEN/TC 459/SC 12 ‘General issues’ will start working on the deliverables mandated by Standardization Request M/601 in support of the Pressure Equipment Directive.
ALLOYS
CEN/TC 132 'Aluminium and aluminium alloys' will continue working on the revision of EN 12392 'Aluminium and aluminium alloys – Wrought products and cast products – Special requirements for products intended for the production of pressure equipment’ in support of the PED. The TC will also start working on the revision of EN 15088 ‘Aluminium and aluminium alloys – Structural products for construction works – Technical conditions for inspection and delivery’ under the CPR.
Furthermore, CEN/TC 133 'Copper and copper alloys' will continue to develop several standards in support of the PED, on various shapes and applications of unwrought, wrought, and cast products, such as EN 12167 ‘Copper and copper alloys – Profiles and bars for general purposes’ and EN 12164 ‘Copper and copper alloys – Rod for free machining purposes’.
