Technical Bodies

Security continues to be a major challenge where standardization has an important role to play, especially as we move towards a Digital Europe. Security in a digital world is a horizontal topic, embracing many aspects: cybersecurity, the security of cyber-physical and Internet-of-Things systems, the security of critical infrastructures, but also the protection of privacy and human rights, the fight against fake news, and much more.

CTA EMERGENCY, SECURITY AND RELATED SUPPORT EQUIPMENT

CEN/TC 439 'Private security services' is responsible for standardization in all civilian security services. In 2025, the technical committee will continue to develop prEN 17483-4 ‘Private security services – Protection of critical infrastructure – Part 4: Energy sector security services’, the fourth part of the EN 17483 series on the protection of critical infrastructure. This document will include sector-specific requirements for the provision of private security services for energy sector security, excluding nuclear power plants. This standard will be the fourth part of a series of standards on the provision of private security services for critical infrastructure.

It is important that the selection of a private security service provider always represents the best balance between quality and price. This document aims to set out the minimum requirements that providers should comply with for this balance to be struck.

CTA OTHER STANDARDS
Police, military and related support equipment

CEN/TC 419 ‘Forensic Science Processes’ is responsible for the development of European Standards laying down the provisions for forensic science processes, which start at the scene of the crime and include the recognition, recording, recovery, transportation, and storage of material, as well as the examination and analysis of material, the interpretation of results, the reporting, and the data exchange. These standards help ensure the integrity of the forensic process.

In 2025, in parallel with ISO/TC 272 ‘Forensic sciences’, CEN/TC 419 will develop and finalize:

  • prEN ISO 21043-1 ‘Forensic sciences - Part 1: Terms and definitions’
  • prEN ISO 21043-3 ‘Forensic Sciences - Part 3: Analysis’
